78th Lamar Community College Commencement Set for May 6

by Kristin Lubbers

The 78th annual Lamar Community College commencement ceremony will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 6, at the LCC Wellness Center.  Over 200 degree or certificate-seeking students are eligible to walk in commencement, including fall 2016 graduates as well as spring and summer 2017 candidates for graduation.

No tickets are required for admittance.

Each year, LCC faculty members choose two students to speak on behalf of the graduating class.  Rebecca Henderson and Jeremy Minnick were chosen to speak during the ceremony.  Henderson is currently a senior at Lamar High School taking concurrent enrollment courses at LCC. She will be graduating Summa Cum Laude with an Associate of Science degree. Minnick is a sophomore from Westminster, Colorado.  He will be graduating with an Associate of Arts degree and has been a key member of the LCC golf team.

The College has invited Pres Askew to be the keynote speaker for the event.  Askew worked for many years for the Windsor Financial Group including serving as President of the company, while also being heavily involved in various organizations like the Denver Athletic Club, the Tony Grampsas Youth Services Board, and the Colorado Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.  Askew has been a stanch advocate for LCC for many years.

To reduce congestion during the ceremony, friends and family members are encouraged to take photos from their seats.  Additionally, graduates and their families may choose to take photos before entering the building or after the ceremonies have concluded.

A reception for graduates and their families will follow the celebration.

Family members who are unable to attend may also view the Commencement ceremony via live web streaming.  A link will be available on the LCC website at www.lamarcc.edu/graduation.

Parking will be available in the Wellness Center parking lot. Overflow parking will be available in the large student parking lots north of Todd‐Burch Residence Hall, the Betz Technology Center, and the staff parking lot. No parking will be allowed in the borrow ditches west of the Wellness Center.
