“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”  Philippians 2:3

Random acts of kindness:  I saw Jo Shoemaker on Valentine’s Day, when she was handing out pink and red bags to people along Maine Street.  They contained a pretty pink glazed heart-shaped sugar cookie that she had made.   What a sweet treat!

The Plains Theatre was the site of the showing of Lou Turner’s Eads Episode 1 and 2 videos last week.  People were delighted to see Lou’s tour of the restaurants, the hospital, several stores and lots of scenes from the Oktoberfest.  Rhett Uhland, an EHS senior, sang the song he wrote, “Babies and Fools” accompanied by Jared Weeks, a Kit Carson junior.  Mr. Turner’s video shows that so much work and workers went into making the Oktoberfest so fun with lots of games, food and merriment.

Valentine’s Day was bursting with good times, parties, and good will of the day about town.  Jordan Sniff said they sold out all of all the boxes of Valentine candies, many gifts, and the fresh flowers.   That evening townspeople and travelers went to the Cobblestone Inn for their spaghetti meal with bread sticks, salad, wine or another beverage.  The dessert of strawberries and crème on a wedge of Angel food cake was delicious.  After a number of single lady friends left, we saw couples going in for a nice evening of dining out served by Raina (Kliesen) Lynch and Chelsea Crosby.

Teri Castle decorated and arranged group tables for the family Valentine Dinner at the Weisbrod ECU Wednesday evening.  Ginger McPherson and her Dietary Staff cooked and served a banquet of shrimp and lemon glazed chicken with twice baked potatoes and other entrées.  Jeannie Strong’s brother, Ron Solt, of Lamar sang medleys of love songs during the cordial meal.   4-H’ers Cade and Molly Stolzenberger and Madison and Cade McDowell helped the staff serve the meals and clean up.

That afternoon Phil Pollreis played his guitar for the residents at Prairie Pines after lunch.  The next day during Coffee Hour, at ECU he spent the time in Harvey Hollis’ room playing his guitar for him.

At the Eads Senior Citizen’s monthly noon lunch and meeting, we celebrated with Rita and Orville Mousel that they have been married 72 years.  People are invited to come to play cards or board games on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. and Pam and Gary Crow are coordinating card games at the Center on Fridays or Saturday evenings depending on school games.  The meal dates in March are: Wednesday the 1st---Sage at noon, Thursday the 2nd, the Brunch at 10:00 a.m. and the noon pot luck will be on Wednesday March 15th.

Physical Therapist Assistant Joe Zinger of Weisbrod was our guest speaker on preventing falls, balance, and other safety topics for senior citizens.  Several citizens made appointments with Joe or Dr. Tim Richardt for four hours of appointments to be evaluated or discuss concerns.

I took Glaida Craven to the bridal shower for Edi Nordquist and Johnathon Lombardo in Kit Carson Saturday.  The sanctuary was beautifully decorated with 16 tall evergreen trees intermixed with white trees and twinkling lights set in banks of cotton “snow”.  This will be the setting for their wedding.  Edi is known as the “face painter” about town Shelly Meyers of Eads decorated a lovely tiered cake for the refreshments.

Lori Beth Weirich was hosted with a lovely bridal shower at First Christian Church, her home church in Eads Sunday.   Her five bridesmaids sat with her at the table to assist her as she opened many gifts for her and her groom, Kyle Elder.   Lori who was a “thrower” on the track team at Fort Hays University now works in a bank in Tribune, Kansas.  Glenda Stoker made a variety of pretty decorated cup cakes that were displayed on a tall tired cake-like stand trimmed in sage green to simulate a wedding cake.

Congratulations to Eads Wrestlers, Rhett Uhland, Chance Fowler, and Trevor Randel who competed in the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament in Denver.  Trevor won a 5th in State Medal.

This week is the District Basketball Play-offs in Lamar.  Last Thursday the students were recognized with their parents at EHS.  This is a list of the boys and girls who have practiced since November:  Lady Eagles are Lauren Brown, Kaycee Ellenberger, Duff Jensen, Cynthia Watson, Reagan Johnson, Miranda Mitchek, Brooklyn Jones, Hadlie Rittgers, Mariah Smith, Brianna Rouse, Lauren Spady, Morgyn Johnson, Kaylee Wilson, Madison Kelley, and Emily Gyurman.  The young ladies are coached by Trey Eder and Justin McLoud.  The boys team: Zach Haase, Stephen Wilson, Dillon Hernandez, Gary Davis, Trey McDowell, Jonah Schofield, Cameron Crow , Blake Stoker, Patrick Hollis, Caden Parker, Fred Turner, and Keaton Coen.  The young men are coached by Russell Parker and Marcus Gillmore.  The cheerleaders, Kelly Ramos, Madison Kelley, Jodi Stolzenberger, Raegan Johnson, Duff Jenson, and Morgyn Johnson have been outstanding.  They are coached by Jodi Stolzenberger and Dawn James.   The managers for the teams are: Mindy Uhland, Rhaelie Rittgers, Ally Spady, Brigden Parker, and Ty Wilson.   Principal Betsy Barnett and Superintendent Glenn Smith are on hand to support and supervise the happenings.  I admire the women of the Booster Club who take turns sitting at the Dessert Drawing table and all those who create attractive and tasty treats.  Best of all I appreciate the women who are mostly mothers and former cheerleaders who stand up during chants and cheers.  Thank you!!

Congratulations to Molly Stolzenberger who applied for and won an expense paid trip to a 4-H Conference to Washington D. C. in June.  She is also an officer in the County and District 4-H Councils.
