“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

The social highlight last week was the wedding of Lori Weirich formerly of Eads to Kyle Elder of Sharon Springs, Kansas.  Lori is the daughter of John and Dawna (Howard) Weirich of Eads who hosted a lovely wedding and spectacular catered reception, dinner and dance in Eads for over 400 people.  Both Lori and Kyle come from large extended families that had a wonderful time at their wedding.  One lady said, “They must really be highly respected people to have so many guests!” as she squeezed in to one of the many chairs in addition to the pews.  I have never seen so many well dressed handsome young men and women in one place forever plus prosperous looking couples of all ages, and lots of babies too.  What fabulous memories for all the well wishers who flocked to the wedding of these loving young people.

Gloria Peck will be honored as the featured quilter at the 8th Annual Southern Colorado Regional Quilt Show Thursday, March 30th through Saturday, April 8.  The show will be at the El Pueblo History Museum in Pueblo.  She will be showing her large quilts and quilted teddy bear.  Gloria is pleased that the Haswell Senior Citizen group will be traveling to attend her Award reception on March 30th.

Tuesday evening was the first time the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) post of Kit Carson, has ever met in Eads.  Commander Areta Laird, arranged for the Women’s Auxiliary to meet in the Ceramic room of the Senior Citizen’s Center while the Veterans met in the social area.  Their meetings are normally the second Tuesday in Kit Carson and the ladies meet at Glaida Craven’s home.

The Eads and Haswell Senior Citizen groups had their monthly meetings and lunches last Wednesday.  The Eads group welcomed Gail Voss as their new director.  She just returned from taking Pastor Nancy Peacock to the Pueblo Hospital but she returned in time to prepare really tasty Corned Beef, Potatoes, and Cabbage to complement the side dishes and desserts.  The groups were glad to hear that Zelpha (Woelk) Deines will work with and teach the Towner, Eads, and Haswell groups ceramics plus other art media.  President Loretta Seibel explained the proposal and budget that was affirmed by the Eads group.  Commissioner Cindy McCloud gave us the good news that Belinda Zink, the architect, has told her that plans are being laid to begin work on our two buildings on the east side of Maine for the future Senior Center in May.

Prairie Pines hosted a St. Patrick’s dinner party Wednesday evening.  The dining room was beautifully decorated in yellow and green table cloths, streamers, green vases of white carnations, and pretty painted rocks.  Christina Wolf and the staff brought out big silver pans of corned beef, potatoes, and cabbage to serve with the other side dishes brought by people who came to dine and visit with the residents.

Mrs. Stephanie Bohlander and Eads Track students went to the Lamar Elks Club to help organize to others play Bingo to earn some money for track equipment.  If any former track student or fan wants to donate to the fund, the future track athletes would be grateful.  The first track meet will be in Lamar, Marsh 25th.

Kim Harris enjoyed having lunch with her daughters, Cassie Fry and little son, Milo, and Shelby Watts of Sterling at JJ’s Ranch House Thursday.  Kim drives from Sheridan Lake to Eads work at the SEPA, Southeast Power Company office.  This is a reminder to so send in your reservation card for the Annual Meeting Dinner that will be in Eads on April 6th.

I want to clarify that our new Nurse Practitioner’s husband’s name is Michael, not Mark as typed last week.  I must have thought that Stephanie Green’s sweet southern accent said, “Mark” rather than “Mike”.

The Health Fair is this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Elementary School.  This is sponsored by the Weisbrod Hospital District with a number of ‘free” testing rooms and educational booths.  We have known of people who lives were “saved” because of having one of these tests.

The Mays sisters, Shirley White of Kit Carson, and Bonnie Rogers of Eads, visited Jenness Kleiboeker Richardson formerly of Kit Carson while they were in Greeley during the State Basketball Tournament.  Jenness is being cared for in the Fort Collins Lemay Rehab and Health Hospital where she is afflicted with ALS.

Margaret Frazee is doing well in the care of the Weisbrod staff and Physical Therapists, Tim Richardt and Joe Zinger.  She told me that she can walk now and hopes to return to Prairie Pines.

Senior Citizens can have some good times on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. when playing cards at the Center and also on Monday afternoons at 1:00 p.m.  People are welcome to come and they can teach you cards and games.  April dates are:  SAGE meal at noon on Wednesday, April 5th,  Brunch on Thursday, April 6th and noon lunch and business meeting on April 19th.

We extend our sympathy to the families of Dorothy Lyon whose funeral was Monday, March 20th at the First Christian Church in Eads.  Dorothy is survived by sons, Jim and Sheri, and Dave and Bev and her daughters, Valerie and Vickie both of Eads.  Dorothy has mourned the loss of two daughters, Karalyn and Maralyn
