About Town
In May, many teachers, families, and some friends of the school have attended three big banquets, a Kindergarten graduation, and the wonderful spring concert. The Academic-Athletic Awards banquet was especially outstanding where every teacher and head coach acknowledged high grade point students in their classes and the coaches related highlights of the sports year. Some awards that are particularly noteworthy that I haven’t read in the newspapers are: The HOBY Hugh O’Brian Award was designated to Sophomores Emily Guryman and Hadlie Rittgers, Senior Kelly Ramos was named by her teachers to receive the Zonta Award and last fall Rhett Uhland received the DAR Good Citizen Award as named by his faculty for this Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter. Two outstanding junior young women, Mindy Uhland and Mariah Smith were chosen by Educators for the coveted crystal pillar awards of Leadership Awards and All-Around Student Award respectively. The coaches especially thanked Darryl Adamson for his good care of the out-door sports facilities and his years of loyal support and co-operation. At the end of the program, Principal Betsy Barnett presented all the seniors and acknowledges their outstanding qualities. She thanked Mrs. Pam Cole for ordering ceramic eagles with which Mrs. LaDawn Britten’s Art Class painted and wrote the names of each EHS senior on an attractive Eagle memento.
Mrs. Gay Uhland arranged a pretty setting for photos and the Kindergarten graduation. The lively little students enjoyed the ceremony and reception with pretty cakes afterwards.
Gail Voss treated the senior with a chicken enchilada entree at the Eads Senior Citizen dinner. Other cooks brought some Mexican casseroles and delicious side dishes and desserts. President Loretta Seibel presided the meeting. Treasurer, LaVerle Kelley gave an up-dated on finances and dates for the community calendar. The three meetings for June are: Brunch on June 7th at 10.00 a.m., Sage meal at noon on June 7th, and Noon lunch meeting on Wed. June 21st. A number of senior citizens plan to travel on the bus to the annual Eastern Slopes Telephone Association’s dinner meeting in June near Hugo. Eunice Weber attended the dinner to take blood pressures and was thanked by LaVerle Kelley and others for arranging to have impressive certificates sent from the State Capitol to honor Centurions in Weisbrod ECU they are Ruth Rose, Pansy Foxworthy, and Harvey Hollis. They were presented by Social Worker, Brandy Turqucott at the National Hospital Week Barbeque last week.
The Annual Co-op prime rib dinner was hosted by the Gas and Grill employees and Board of Directors. Those men on the Board are Mike Weirich, Randy Carney, Barry Koch, and Jeff Salisbury. Chad Rouse resigned earlier this year to manage the Hometown Gas and Grill with his wife, Tiffany. General Manager, Mandy Adamson and President Weirich summarized during the meeting that the operations are going well and they are having a good and growing business which will probably increase in summer time. Mandy said they used to operate with 10 to 12 employees and now they have over 20 employees. Some guests left with fine prizes like a television, telephone, gift cards, portable chairs and coolers.
I went to the school two times Thursday to see the Track students off to State Track but their trip was postponed till Friday at 2:00 p.m. The hope is that if the rain and snow stops that they can get a three-day track meet packed into two days. We are proud of the track students coached by Mrs. Stephanie Bohlander and Mr. Trey Eder. Those students are: Mariah Smith, Zach Haase, Booklyn Jones, Kaycee Ellenberger, Reagen Johnson, Hadlie Rittgers, Morgyn Johnson, Blake Stoker, Patrick Hollis, Trevor Randel, Keaton Coen, Fred Turner, and Caden Parker.
How wonderful that Eads Schools has captured another honor from the Colorado State Capitol government. They probably did not know when all the Eads Seniors registered to vote that they would be the school in the state with the highest percent of students registered to vote. It was neat to see Brad Johnson and Jaxon Crawford of Kit Carson in the photo with the Eads seniors on the last day of school
I was not surprised that that the petite Barbara Scranton was the master mind behind the community Scavenger Hunt. What a great idea to get people inside local business places. It was a fun Saturday activity and how happy those people were to have won $2,000.00 and prizes of $200.00, and $100.00 and $100.00.
Every week when I read college girl, Eboni Nash’s article essay, I just want to hug her and shower her with gifts, and cheers, and goodness for her profound thought provoking thoughts and ideas. She is indeed a marvel!!
How exciting for Marty and Betsy Barnett to have two lawyers in their family who have followed their grandfather, Merle Legg’s path. Dane and Jordon. The lovely Jordon recently graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law. It was so meaningful for their daughter, Jordan, to have her brother’s, Kyle, Chad, and Dane and her parents and two sister-in-laws at her graduation as well as a young niece and two nephews.
