''This is the day which the lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

The Bible verse above is one of our favorites to sing in youth groups, at camp, riding in a car, doing the dishes, or whatever. Many humans wake up not expecting a good day. I remind friends around me, "attitude, attitude." We have so much to be glad about. I comment to those around me when we watch the news, "Aren't you glad that we live in America?" Or "I am so glad I live in Colorado or Eads!" Then, if it is an appropriate time, I start singing or humming, "It's a beautiful day and I thank God for the weather. It's a beautiful day and I'm living it for my Lord. It's a beautiful day and things are gonna get better. Living each day by the promises in God's Word." Our sweet little nurse, Rhonda Cosper from Alabama, just said to us this morning "I thank God every day I wake up for another day because so many people don't get that gift."

Sports fans around southeast Colorado whose teams won at the regional basketball tournaments packed their bags for the Colorado State Tournaments in several cities. There have been many changes of venues made at the state level. From what I have heard, the Kit Carson, Eads, McClave, and Cheyenne Wells basketball teams played in Greeley, along with the other schools south of us. I was happy to see that Fowler High School, for which Jaxon Crawford is an assistant coach, was also at State. Jaxon is formerly from Kit Carson. Their team played Thursday in Loveland while his parents, Sara and Mike Crawford, were coaching the Kit Carson girls in Greeley at the same time. In Eads Thursday morning, students and fans had a send-off for the girls basketball team heading to Greeley.

Next week will be spring break for the Eads schools. A parent told me that she is taking her children to Texas to several fun places, and a father told me they are taking their three daughters to see Kentucky. I do remind local people to watch out for children playing or walking in the streets.

Mary Jean Carrigan of Kit Carson visited her school friend, Vera Hammons, at Weisbrod Tuesday afternoon. Mary Jean moved from Aurora after her work career to retire in Kit Carson. Connie Weber has been in Denver to visit her home and check on her many grape vines. She is good to visit her brother, Mike Gorman, in Eads.

Staff and resident's hearts have been heavy around the hospital facility since last week for our nurse, Lacy (Schick) Lawrence and her two sisters’ families after their mother, Lolly, suddenly died in Denver, and their father, Dean, died 26 hours later in the Weisbrod Hospital Extended Care Unit. Their funeral is planned for Thursday in the Cheyenne Wells Community Building. Such grief. Please pray for these families.

Last Saturday, Neil and Jennifer Mauch and children, Grant, Kane, and Briarer, came to visit, bringing their five little spotted dachshund puppies. The residents were delighted to hold the puppies. Their family had driven to their farm from Alamosa, where they watched their son, Grant's, school mates of Wiley play in the regional basketball finals.

The Kit Carson volunteer firefighters and families are having a meal of potato soup and chili and a silent auction March 16 beginning at 1:00 p.m. It is at the fire station on Highway 287. This is a fund raiser for victims. I have attended some of these and know that it is a good time for a hurting community that is pulling together after two tragic deaths in February.

Our communities do wish Orville Mousel of Eads, formerly of Cheyenne Wells, a happy birthday! He is 103 years old! Isn't that wonderful? We are proud to have this World War II veteran living near Eads! Areta Blooding Laird showed me several photos she took of Orville and Rita, who was 97 years of age March 6. They look much younger than their actual years of life. I think it is so precious of Orville when he grins and tells people "I held her when Rita was a baby.” That is true; I checked the facts.

Many Eads seniors enjoyed eating good foods and visiting at the brunch last Wednesday. We hope senior folk will come to the lunch March 20.

The Eads Chamber of Commerce met at JJ's Restaurant last Wednesday for a lunch meeting. They discussed details about the annual Kid's Fishing Day at Jackson's Pond, which is just south down the hill behind Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community. For families and grandparents, this is sponsored by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife employees and the Chamber. Cindy McLoud said they called and will collaborate with the Chamber. Brandon Hoffman, Treasurer, has a collection of prizes to give. Dennis Pearson and Jan Richards will order the hot dogs, buns, condiments and beverages. At noon, the parents and youth will gather at the main shelter to be served their free meal and enjoy fishing. The Chamber decided on the "Volunteer of the Year" and the "Citizen of the Year."

Best wishes in adjusting to the time change again.
