Well, Plainview is back in the swing of things after Christmas vacation; because of the weather, illness, and previous commitments, events were re-scheduled or cancelled. Unfortunately, that is what happens in winter and flu season.

The junior high basketball team’s away game with Alta Vista was re-scheduled for February 6. The home game with Alta Vista will be January 31 at 2:30 p.m.

Because of a re-scheduled teacher profession development day, the high school knowledge team was not able to attend the Kit Carson Meet, the Hawks began in earnest with at competition at Eads on January 19.  Their next meet was in Springfield January 26. The regional meet (state qualifying meet) will be February 5 at Eads School.

The 2024 Plainview High School/Junior High Science Fair will be held February 1 in the library. Projects will be judged beginning from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The awards program will start at 6:00 p.m. by announcing placing and the qualifiers for the Southeast Colorado Science Fair in Lamar February 28. There will also be a soup supper hosted by the senior and junior classes in the cafeteria from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Come and enjoy an evening of science discovery, great food and good conversation. If you have any questions about the science fair, contact Brenda Fickenscher at the school by calling 719-729-3331.

The junior high knowledge team’s next meet will be February 2. This will be a busy day for the Hawks: the high school and junior high students will be taking a field trip to Denver (a college visit for the high school and a Nuggets basketball game for both junior high and high school).

Saturday, February 3, the indoor track team will be competing at United States Air Force Academy meet in Colorado Springs.

The elementary students resumed Enrichment Friday January 19. Imagine ping-pong balls, paint, food, and geography! The students were able to learn about many countries and enjoy foods from those countries while having some fun.
