Gardner Celebrates National School Choice Week

Colorado Senator Cory Gardner

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement after the Senate unanimously approved a resolution designating the week of January 24th to January 30th as National School Choice Week:

“National School Choice Week highlights the importance of empowering parents with greater control over their children’s education, and the benefits that come with it," said Gardner. "A good education is the foundation for success, and parents are in the best position to determine what school matches their child’s individual educational needs. I have remained a strong proponent of expanding school choice as it improves quality and encourages competition, and I’ll continue to work to maximize parental choice for childhood education in order to provide our children with more opportunities to excel.”

Throughout his career, Gardner has advocated for expanding school choice. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), a bipartisan overhaul of the No Child Left Behind Act and federal education policy, included provisions that Gardner authored, including an amendment that ensures charter schools have a seat at the table in education development planning. Additionally, Gardner recently submitted an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court in support of Douglas County School District’s Choice Scholarship Program.
