Highway 287 Reopens Following Fatal Crash

Highway 287 between Eads and Kit Carson has reopened following investigation and cleanup from a crash.

The crash, which resulted in at least one fatality according to the Colorado State Patrol, closed the road shortly after midnight Friday. Traffic was re-routed to Highways 71 and 385 while the investigation continued. The road reopened around 8:50 a.m.

A photo from the scene shows a semi tractor-trailer unit that was almost completely demolished, with wreckage and the trailer's contents scattered across the highway and roadside.

The cause of the crash, number of vehicles involved and conditions of any other victims have not been released.
