Obituary - Cora ‘Tillie’ Ansley

Cora ‘Tillie’ Ansley

April 6, 1935 – June 27, 2023

Cora "Tillie" was born April 6, 1935, to William "Bill" and Esther Gossett in Lincoln County.

She began her school years in a one room schoolhouse in the Kendrick Community, where she and her brother and sister walked to school. The school closed when she was in the eighth grade. All of the students were then sent to Edison.

Cora had three siblings, William "Bub" Gossett, Perry "Buster" Gossett, and sister Opal Landon.

Cora married Reuben Frick, and the couple had three children, Gary, Esther, and Ralph Frick. Reuben passed in 1968. Cora then married her second husband George W Ansley, and had one son, George A. Ansley. Cora also added two stepchildren to her family, Ruth Owens and Jim Ansley.

As a kid, Cora helped her parents on the homestead piling beans and stalking corn, along with milking cows, which she hated. Later helping husband, Reuben, taking care of their farm, then again with second husband, George. Cora worked hard all her life.

Cora was best known for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, angel food cakes, homemade noodles, and fresh baked pies. Her family was always happy to find a great meal cooking when they came in from doing their chores, then later when they all came back for a visit on the farm and smelled the bread in the oven. 

Cora passed away peacefully at her home June 27, 2023. 

Cora was preceded in death by her first husband, Reuben Frick; second husband, George Ansley; parents, William and Esther Gossett; brother, William "Bub" Gossett; sister, Opal Landon; and stepdaughter Ruth Owens.

Cora is survived by children, Gary Frick of Cheraw, Esther ( Ruben Rael ) Frick of La Junta, Ralph Frick of Haswell, and George (Melissa) Ansley of Rocky Ford; stepson, Jim (Tina) Ansley of Perryton, Texas; and brother, Perry (Karen) of Kinnear, Wyoming. She is also survived by the two loves of her life, her grandchildren, Tillie and Slade Ansley of Rocky Ford; as well as several step grand- and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Cora was held June 30, 2023, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Eads. 

Cora’s family will be hosting a graveside committal service July 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ordway Cemetery in Ordway. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s own choosing.
