15 Years Ago - February 20, 2009

  • Fire at the FFA Ag barn. The barn contained about 40 animals. All made it out unharmed. A heat lamp was the source of the fire.
  • The Kiowa County Courthouse was temporarily evacuated due to a natural gas leak inside the building.

25 Years Ago - February19, 1999

  • United States Senator Wayne Allard was in Eads to meet with local citizens. He stated it was time for the country to put the recent trial of the President behind us and focus on issues such as paying down the national debt.
  • A thank you from friends and neighbors of Kit Carson to all those who helped put out the potentially devastating fire that endangered the town.

40 Years Ago - February 24, 1984

  • A contract to sell 80 percent of Eads Bancorporation, a major shareholder of First National Bank in Eads, has been signed by present local investors.
  • At the regular meeting the Eads Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance No. 226 calling for a two percent sales tax in Eads.
  • A blizzard-like storm with winds up to 50-70 mph ripped through eastern Colorado, dumping several inches of snow and stranded motorists.

50 Years Ago - February 22, 1974

  • Ron Rehfeld, Plainview, and Marlena Marx have won honors as Betty Crocker Family Leaders of Tomorrow. Both will compete in the state contest for a $1,500 scholarship.
