  • Eads & Haswell received $560,000 in Grants. Eads received $492,100 for wastewater treatment system and Haswell 69,520 for firefighting equipment improvements.

 

  • Howard Mitchell Family along with several local teens will be leaving on their 5 annual Christmas Mission Trip to The Arbol de’ Vida Orphanage
  •  in the surrounding Anapra Mexico area.

 

  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: While moving boxes I found some old gas tickets dated 1960. Four-cent tax and eighteen cents a gallon.

  • Headline: Local Farms to Test New York ‘Sludge’ The sludge recycling plan was outlined to area farmers at a special meeting in Lamar.

 

  • The future of the Eads Police force moved a step closer to a resolution but a special meeting between the town board and the county commissioners was postponed.

 

  • Fischer’s Shamrock has been closed for an indefinite period. The most recent operator ‘Scoot’ Fischer has moved to Kansas and his mother Betty Jacobs has been running the service station until the inventory of gas ran out.

 

  • Mrs. Mary Lewis’s 2nd grade class along with Bob Seay on his guitar, presented a lovely program all dressed in variety of Indian and pilgrim costumes

December 3, 1976

 

  • All tax levies from taxing authorities in Kiowa County show  little change ecept in the ounty and school district #RE-2.

 

  • Three citizens attended the RE-1 meeting to request clarification of the school’s spanking policy.

 

  • Santa changed date of visit from December 22 to December 23 according to Chamber of Commerce, secretary Sandy Jones.

 

  • Contest between members of the Bent-Prowers Cattle & Horse Raiser Assn & Cattlemen for the San Luis Valley with the winner being Colorado Cattlemen’s Endowment Trust Fund.

December 2, 1966

 

  • During the latter part of November, two additional oil wells have been completed in the Brandon field

 

  • Employment in Kiowa County fell between March 1964 and March 1965 according to County Business Patterns 1965 – Colorado.

 

  • A crowd between 175 & 200 people turned out for the annual Eads Chamber of Commerce Farmers & Ranchers Banquet

 

100 Years Ago

December 1, 1916

 

  • The first rural mail route out of Eads made its initiative trip. The result 150 families will get their mail daily.

 

  • J.B. Finney is starting up a new mercantile firm in Chivington which will be known as Finney & Co
