Southeast Colorado Fishing Conditions – November 29

Arkansas River Headwaters
Temperatures have dropped into the high 30-low 40 degree range. This is causing the fish to migrate over to slow, deeper runs that they will stay in for the season. The best fishing for the winter season will be in the Big Bed/Salida area and Bighorn Sheep Canyon upstream of Texas Creek. When these areas experience heavy sun exposure following warm nights, they will generate good midge activity which leads to stronger feeding periods from the fish. Best fishing times have been around noon, when the sun is the highest. Aside from using midge patterns, anglers have found success using golden stoneflies, pheasant tails, and caddis larvae (light). (Courtesy of ArkAnglers).

Trinidad Lake
The lake temperature has been in the low 50 degree range. Trout fishing from the shoreline has picked up over the last week. Anglers have had success using night crawlers, artificial flies, and PowerBait. The trout that have been pulled in have been in the 12 to 15 inch range. Boaters have still been catching a mixed bag of trout, walleye, and perch. Boaters have been catching fish trolling worm harnesses.
Just a reminder: the boat ramp will be closed starting December 1st.  Trinidad Lake State Park
