ORDINANCE #284

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE COMPENSATION FOR THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF CHEYENNE WELLS, COLORADO.

WHEREAS, it is necessary to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Town of Cheyenne Wells, and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Town of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, to establish the compensation for the Mayor and the Board of Trustees of the Town of Cheyenne Wells and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Code of the Town of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, as adopted in 1989, amended in 1998, provides in Section 2.04.080, Compensation for the Mayor of the Town, and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Code for the Town of Cheyenne Wells, adopted in 1989, amended in 1998, provides in Section 2.04.090, Compensation for the Board of Trustees of the Town, and

WHEREAS, the amended Code Sections as aforementioned specifically provided $100 per regular meeting attended for the Mayor and $50 per regular meeting attended for the Board of Trustees and $25 per special meeting attended for the Mayor and Board of Trustees.

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees is desirous of updating the aforementioned compensation for both the Mayor and Board of Trustees as hereinafter provided. 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF CHEYENNE WELLS, COLORADO:

  1.  That Section 2.04.080 of the Code of the Town of Cheyenne wells shall be and become amended as the follows, to-wit: The Mayor of the Town shall receive, during the term of his/her office and until his/her successor has become duly qualified and acting, as compensation for serving as Mayor, a sum of $150 for each regular meeting personally attended and $50 for each additional special meeting personally attended.
  2.  That Section 2.04.090 of the Code of the Town of Cheyenne Wells shall be and become amended as follows, to-wit: The Board of Trustees of the Town shall receive, during the term of his/her office and until his/her successor has become duly qualified and acting, as compensation for serving as Trustee, a sum of $100 for each regular meeting personally attended and $50 for each additional special meeting personally attended.
  3. Pursuant to C.R.S. 31-4-405, as amended, it specifically provides that the emoluments of the any member of the governing board, including the mayor, trustees, or councilpersons, shall not increase or diminished during their term of which they have been duly elected or appointed. Accordingly, the aforementioned increase in fees shall not become effective for any mayor, trustees, or councilperson during the term for which for which they have been elected or appointed.

First reading and ordered published this 5th day of March, 2024, to be considered for final adoption at their regular meeting on the 9th day of April, 2024.
