Two Salida Area Poaching Incidents Leaves CPW Searching for Answers

Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking that anyone with information concerning two separate Salida-area poaching incidents come forward.

On November 19, around 11:00 a.m., near Ute Heights off of county road 178, a deer was shot and loaded into what is believed to be a black or charcoal Nissan Titan or Toyota Tundra by three males. One man was wearing a white T-shirt and the two others were in dark clothing. The vehicle was last seen driving toward U.S. Forest Service Rd. 175 and the intersection into Pinon Hills.

On November 20, between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m., residents living between Maxwell and Chilcott Streets reported hearing shots fired. A deer was shot in the 500 block of Maxwell St. and ran south into the alley where it was shot again and loaded into a vehicle.

It is unknown if these incidents are related.

People with information are asked to call the CPW Salida office at (719) 530-5520, or report their information through the Operation Game Thief hotline: 1(877) COLO-OGT (265-6648). Through the hotline, reporting parties can remain anonymous and not have to testify in court.

Information leading to solving each case could garner a reward, up to $1,000.
