THANK YOU
I just want to express my gratitude for the expressions of sympathy after the sudden loss of my Mom, Carolyn. To the USDA employees, County Committee and producers who reached out and sent emails and cards or just a simple ‘so sorry’ spoken in the office or on the phone, THANK YOU. I feel so blessed to live in such a caring community and be surrounded by such wonderful people.

FALL DEADLINE FOR ACREAGE REPORTING
Producers have until November 15th to report their fall planted crops; such as wheat, triticale and native grass. If you are traveling quite a distance, call before coming over and be certain employees are available to assist you. Producers will need number of acres and planting dates available when certifying planted crops.
2016 ARC-PLC PAYMENTS ISSUED
The 2016 ARCPLC payments have been issued and should be in producer’s bank accounts or checks in the mail box.
The final 2016 rates for PLC were –
- Wheat - 1.61 bu.
- Oats - $.35 bu.
- Corn - $.34 bu.
- Grain Sorghum – $1.16 bu.
The sunflower rate will not be available until the end of November, therefore payments will not be issued until December. Currently the projected PLC rate for sunflowers is .0285 a pound.
The ARC-CO payments did not trigger for Kiowa County on wheat, corn, grain sorghum or barley, due to the fact the 2016 actual revenue exceeded the guaranteed revenue. Payments did trigger for oats; be reminded the payment for ARC-CO is capped at 10% of the benchmark revenue. Below is a chart which shows the benchmark yields and prices, guarantees and actual yields received for Kiowa County for 2016 crop year. Note - the 2016 actual revenue exceeds the guaranteed revenue for all crop with the exception of oats, and again sunflower information will not be available until end of November.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH - WANT A PINK PUMPKIN?
The USDA Service Center in Eads has teamed up with the Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) chapter #124 to participate in the National WIFE Pink Pumpkin Community Awareness Project.
Answer these questions:
Are you or a family member a breast cancer survivor?
Are you or a family member currently fighting breast cancer?
Have you lost a family member to breast cancer?
If you can answer YES to any of these three questions, then please take home a pumpkin in honor of your fight or your family member’s fight against breast cancer. There is a small fee for the pumpkin, which goes to support the project. So, while you are in the office and it is fall, and Halloween is upon us, purchase a pumpkin for a good cause.
