  • A Special day for athletes and fans as they headed to Pueblo for the Colorado State Basketball Tournament. Along the way they could see purple and gold flags waving on Maine, around homes and highway places of business and then along Highway 96.

  • USDA Update-Rod Johnson: After a wonderful vacation in New Zealand, I am back in the FSA office. I attended a 100-year anniversary tractor show. I have never seen so many tractors in one place.

  • Kenan Gooden became the 2002 Colorado State Champion in the Elks Freethrow Contest making 23 of 25 throws

 

  • About Town: Some of these winds have played havoc with fences. My neighbor's fence all up again. I recognized her son Tom working on it.

  • USDA Update-Rod Johnson: As you read this, I should be on a "Goldfields Trek" in New Zealand
  • . The Trek is a four-day hike through the pristine mountains and farm country to commemorate the gold rush in New Zealand.

  • Severe winds hit the county last week causing erosion in several wheat fields due to poor cover  from two years of drought and poor planting conditions last year

  • Native Americans and Alaska Native students are eligible for a summer intern program at American University in Washington D.C. with transportation, meals & living expenses provided.

  • USDA in the process of establishing a uniform data base of producer names and address that will be used by all agencies within USDA

 

  • About Town: We took a ride south of town to see "The Little House" on the Prairie. A small structure is being built, but it looks comfortable.

 

  • Plainview School held a potluck for the community. Afterwards a meeting was held to discuss the declining enrollment of the school.

  • Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Schrimp: I know people don't like to see birthdays roll around, but mine Sat. was kind of nice. No Party but lot of nice cards and phone calls. Marty made my favorite meat dish, meat loaf.

 

  • The overall Junior Champion for the 2001-2002 Science Fair was Andrea Buxton and overall Senior Champion was Dain Barnett
