Coming off another 2nd Place team finish in Crowley County, the County Line Rivals came home with 4- 1st place finishers, 3 - 2nd place finishers, and 1 - 3rd place finisher. Crowley County came away with the 1st place finish with 144 points to County Line's 136.5.
The County Line Rivals wrestling team from Kiowa, Bent and Prowers counties took on Straton Saturday.
Busy was the best word to describe the week for the County Line Rivals Wrestling team. Uhland and company traveled to Yuma Thursday night for tri-meet with Yuma, and Lamar JV.
The first dual of the night was against Lamar JV with the Savages getting the win 69-9.
In the prime of their season, the County Line Rivals put on a good showing at home over the weekend hosting a 3-team dual at home on Friday and a tournament on Saturday.
Friday night, only a few Rivals had matches in the dual against the powerhouse Peyton. They finished behind the Panthers 36-47.
The County Line Rivals returned to the mats this weekend after and long and restful Christmas break. The team traveled down the road a few miles to Lamar. Being down a few kids to injuries hindered the team score for the Rivals, as they earned into 4thplace with 107 points behind Crowley County, Yuma, and Lamar. The home team ran away with the 1st place trophy with 278 points.
The Bent's Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association annual meeting will be held Saturday, January 11, at the J. W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum, 560 Bent Avenue, in Las Animas. The meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a general business meeting followed by a catered lunch.
After lunch, there will an update about the Santa Fe Trail Association by Joanne Vancoevern, Association Manager, and Deb Goodrich, Publicity Chair, who will discuss the present and future plans of the Association.
The County Line Rivals shined as a team again this weekend against a plethora of very tough northern teams. The group traveled to Wray on Saturday to join 16 other teams on the mats. At the end of a very long day, the Rivals came out in second place behind the reigning 2A team champions, Wray.
The Bent County Sheriff's Office is investigating following a fire Saturday in the 1700 block of 8th Street in Las Animas.
One person was found dead at the home, and BCSO has termed the location as "an active crime scene" in a social media post. The person's identity has not been released.
Eighth Street between Park and McAfee Avenues, as well as the intersection of 8th Street and McBride Avenue are closed and not expected to reopen until at least Monday.
Well it's not a sprint, it's a marathon and two weeks into the 2019-20 wrestling season the Rivals are rolling right along. It was a 4thplace finish in a 24-team field that County Line finished up with and although no 1stplace winners it was a pretty solid field of medalist as we had 2 - 2ndplace; 4 - 3rdplace; and 1 - 4thplace finisher. The Rivals racked up 125 points for 4thplace losing to 1stplace, Lyons and Peyton tying for 1stwith 138 points, and Yuma getting 135.5 for 3rd
