Kathy Self, Tree Board Chair for the Town of Springfield for more than 30 years, has been named the Colorado State Forest Service Volunteer of the Year for 2021.

Despite snow falling in many regions of Colorado recently, most of the state is still experiencing drought conditions after an abnormally dry period at the end of last year.

Across the West, thousands of people are deciding what to do about homes that have been destroyed by wildfires in recent months. Those planning to rebuild will be looking for ways to make their new homes and neighborhoods as fire-resistant as possible.

Despite occasional rain showers in areas of western Colorado over the spring and summer, persistent drought conditions have parched soil over much of the western part of the state, stressing irrigated lawns and larger landscape trees.
