Home basketball games at Lamar Community College have been further postponed due to a shipping delay with the new scoreboards. The new estimated arrival for the scoreboards is Tuesday, November 13. If all goes well with the installation, the Lopes will host two home games this week on Wednesday and Thursday, November 14 and 15.
The Vilas High School A-team won top honors and the traveling trophy at the Knowledge Bowl hosted at Lamar Community College Friday, November 2.
With an overall score of 76 points, the Vilas team toppled Lamar High School, who had won the event for the past three years running. The LHS A team came in second with 72 points, while Plainview A took third with 56.
The season's end came sooner than hoped, leaving the Lamar Community College volleyball team to reflect on season full of success while learning from its postseason shortcomings.
The Lopes (18-14) fell to Casper in straight sets (20-25, 20-25, 20-25) on October 31 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, during the first round of the Region IX Tournament. It was a bitter end for a team with eyes on making a third straight postseason run.
America's Farmers Grow Rural Education called on local farmers to help nominate rural schools to receive nearly $2.3 million in grants to enhance their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. Local farmers,Eric Ellenberger & Jeff Uhland, answered the call, and the Grow Rural Education program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, has recognized Kiowa County School District RE-1 in Kiowa County, Colorado with a $25,000 grant.
The Lamar Community College Rodeo team will host its annual Antelope Stampede October 5 through 7 at the Prowers County Sand & Sage Fairgrounds.
Fourteen teams from throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska will compete over three days with performances at 6:00 p.m. Friday, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
Lamar Community College is currently accepting vendor applications for the 44thAnnual Art, Craft & Food Festival set for November 10. Vendor space is limited, so any interested businesses are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible to reserve their space.
