Teenager Charley Maranville has been awarded the Colorado Simmental Association's Youth Grant.
Maranville, a student at Big Sandy School in Simla, farms and ranches with her family near Ramah. She was awarded the scholarship this winter to help defray the expense of her first Simmental heifer. Maranville selected a bred heifer last week, using the $500 herd builder funds from CSA.

Due to lower water levels in Rampart Reservoir and related safety concerns, the management partners of the reservoir site will close the boat ramp and watercraft inspection station for the remainder of the season, starting at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 15.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office has announced the names of two men who were found shot to death Thursday at a home near Simla.
Luis Suarez, 30, of El Paso County, was found dead outside the home located in the 30000 block of Highway 24. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the torso.
