Gene and Carolyn Lutz Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

Gene and Carolyn (Baublits) of Canon City, were married August 31, 1958, at the United Methodist Church in Las Animas. They started their married life in Eads.

Gene retired from 35 years of service in the United States Department of Agriculture (ASCS) after working in Las Animas, Eads, Holyoke, and Canon City. Gene also served 23 years in the Colorado Army National Guard. 

In Eads, Carolyn worked for the Superintendent of Eads Schools, Lovett's Triangle Clothiers and John Deer.

Dry winter misses the Upper Arkansas; Outfitters prepping for busy whitewater season

Whitewater rafting and kayaking enthusiasts, who make the Arkansas River one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the nation, received good news this week from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), which manages flows in the river.

The BOR released its May forecast regarding the availability of water for the Voluntary Flow Management Program (VFMP) in the Arkansas River for the upcoming whitewater season and projected a minimum of 10,000 acre feet of water will be available for recreational purposes.

If you want to have a voice in how Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages the Buffalo Peaks elk herd, your time has arrived.

As part of the process of revising the herd management plan that will guide CPW for the next 10 years, the wildlife agency has scheduled two public hearings in coming weeks to invite hunters, ranchers and the public to influence policies governing the herd.
