LCC Nursing Announces Site Review

Lamar Community College Nursing Program has announced that it will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its Associates Degree in Nursing Program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

All interested parties are invited to meet the site visit team and share their comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in the Buchannan Events Room (Trustees Building, Room 121) on the Lamar Community College campus.

Health Department Revises School Immunization Waiver Form

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has revised the non-medical immunization exemption form used by parents who do not want their children to receive state-required vaccinations.

The purpose of the waiver is to inform parents who choose not to vaccinate their children of the risks associated with various childhood diseases.

Colorado Adults Remain Leanest in the Nation

Colorado remained the leanest state in the nation in 2015, with a 20.2 percent adult obesity rate, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

Colorado's obesity rate increased dramatically from 2000 through 2010 but since then has leveled off. Nevertheless, one in five Colorado adults is obese, and obesity rates are higher for African-American (27.7 percent) and Hispanic (28.3 percent) Coloradans.

New Campaign Helps Adults Talk to Youth About Marijuana Use

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has launched a youth marijuana prevention campaign aimed at "trusted adults." The campaign provides parents, educators, coaches, mentors and others who work with youth with the tools, tips and information they need to talk to youth about the importance of not using retail marijuana before age 21.

Cheyenne Manor Receives Top Rating in Annual Survey

Cheyenne Manor had their annual Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Survey completed. The survey process reviews all State and CMS regulations and determines if the facility complies with regulations, or if they need improvement.  Cheyenne Manor received no deficiencies.

In addition to this great survey, on August 10th, 2016, Cheyenne Manor was once again awarded the highest rating by CMS - a FIVE STAR rating for the 6th year in a row.

One Death Among 13 Human Cases of West Nile Virus in Colorado

Colorado has seen a sharp increase in the number of cases of West Nile virus diagnosed in 2016. People, animals and mosquito pools have tested positive from the following counties this season: Adams, Arapahoe, Bent, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Gunnison, La Plata, Larimer, Mesa, Morgan, Rio Blanco and Weld. So far this year, 13 cases of human West Nile virus have been reported, including one death.
