Earlier this week the Colorado Department of Agriculture Animal Health Division sent out a release indicating that the number of reported rabies cases in Colorado was on the rise in 2017.

Bush Brothers & Company, which produces a variety of canned baked bean products, has issued a voluntary nation-wide recall of three products due to what the company calls a potentially defective side seam on the cans.
Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans, Country Style Baked Beans and Original Baked Beans in 28 ounce cans are subject to the recall. All have a best by date of June 2019.

Colorado Lightning Safety Awareness Week continues through tomorrow. Today we discuss lightning medical issues for survivors.

In Colorado, nearly a half million cloud-to-ground lightning flashes are documented each year. With millions of visitors and extensive outdoor activities, it is not surprising that, each year on average, three people are killed by lightning in the state of Colorado while 13 are injured. Last year, two people were killed by lightning in the Centennial State while seven were injured.

"Getting plenty of fruits and vegetables helps families live healthier lives and reduces the likelihood of chronic disease," said Elaine Auld, CEO of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). Kiowa County School District RE-1, covering Eads Elementary, Middle and High Schools, is the only district in Colorado to achieve a 100% vaccination rate. Only 14 individual schools in the state achieve the perfect score - with the schools in Eads representing three of the 14.
