$8 Million in Heroin Seized in Pueblo – 5 Charged

The Pueblo Police Department, the Colorado U.S. Attorney's Office, and the FBI Denver Division, all partners of the Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force, announced the seizure of historic amounts of heroin from two homes and a business located in Pueblo. Following the seizure, the U.S. Attorney's Office obtained grand jury indictments charging five people with distribution of drug charges. Four of the five were also charged with federal firearms violations. All five are in federal custody with charges pending.

Rocky Ford Cold Case Investigation Continues

The Rocky Ford Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation are continuing to investigate a missing persons case from nearly 35 years ago after new information came to light.

November 1, 1982, Victoria Lenore Sanchez and Yvonne Marie Mestas, both 15 at the time, left Rocky Ford High School during the afternoon and disappeared.

New information, which has not been disclosed, led RFPD and CBI to continue the investigation to determine what happened the day the girls went missing.

Arrest Made in Drug Investigation

Prowers County Sheriff Sam Zordel announced Friday that an arrested has been made for distribution of drugs.

Friday afternoon, Jose Santos Alvarez, 36, of Lamar, was arrested on a warrant for both possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Alvarez is being held in Prowers County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 cash-only bond.

The warrant for Alvarez' arrest following a lengthy investigation conducted by the regional drug task force, comprised of the Prowers, Kiowa, Baca and Cheyenne county Sheriff's offices.
