Cheyenne County man sentenced to 8 years on drug charge

During the first week of March, Clayton John Hoffman of Cheyenne Wells appeared in the Fifteenth Judicial District Court where he pled guilty to a felony drug charge.

Cheyenne County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call at the Trail Inn Motel in Cheyenne Wells in late August 2020. During an investigation, nearly 200 grams of methamphetamine was discovered and seized.

One arrested following high-speed chase across three counties

One person has been arrested following a high-speed pursuit that began in Kiowa County just south of Eads and ended in Bent County after briefly running through Prowers County.

Kiowa County deputies attempted to make contact with the driver of a vehicle that was southbound on Highway 287 south of Eads. The driver pulled over, then sped away with deputies in pursuit.

The chase reached speeds of 140 miles per hour at times.

One arrested on felony drug charge in Kiowa County

The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office announced Friday that one person was arrested earlier in February on felony drug charges.

According to information provided by KCSO, deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle on Highway 96 between Chivington and Brandon in eastern Kiowa County. At the scene, deputies found the woman, identified as Yadira Chavarria-Enriquez, incoherent and called for an ambulance while providing basic medical care until emergency medical services arrived.

Florida U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy will introduce a bill to revise the federal background-check process to bar QAnon believers and those who participated in the Capitol insurrection from receiving security clearances necessary to hold government positions.
