366 DUI Arrests for New Year Patrol, 10,000 Overall in 2017

New Year's Eve represents a night of celebration and resolutions, but not all Coloradoans stuck to those resolutions while ringing in the new year. So, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and statewide law enforcement agencies increased DUI patrols from December 29 to January 2 to keep impaired drivers off the roads. This enforcement period saw 366 impaired drivers cut their celebrations short with a DUI arrest, an increase from the 279 arrests made during the same enforcement period last year.

As Thanksgiving motorists flock to Colorado roads to celebrate with friends and family, CDOT, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and statewide law enforcement agencies will ramp up DUI enforcement efforts to keep Colorado roads safe from impaired drivers.

Through Monday, November 27, 111 agencies will participate in the campaign, which could include checkpoints, saturation patrols or an increased number of patrols. During the long 2016 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, there were six fatalities on Colorado roads, one of which involved an impaired driver.

$8 Million in Heroin Seized in Pueblo – 5 Charged

The Pueblo Police Department, the Colorado U.S. Attorney's Office, and the FBI Denver Division, all partners of the Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force, announced the seizure of historic amounts of heroin from two homes and a business located in Pueblo. Following the seizure, the U.S. Attorney's Office obtained grand jury indictments charging five people with distribution of drug charges. Four of the five were also charged with federal firearms violations. All five are in federal custody with charges pending.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and law enforcement agencies throughout the state have increased DUI enforcement for the Halloween weekend, arresting drivers impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other drugs as part of CDOT's The Heat Is On campaign. The enforcement aims to eliminate impaired driving related injuries and fatalities over Halloween weekend and could include sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and additional law enforcement on duty dedicated to DUI enforcement.
