Two Juveniles Arrested for Threats to Niwot High School in Colorado

Two male juveniles have been arrested for alleged threats against Niwot High School that occurred in mid-February.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office received Safe 2 Tell reports February 16 in which a 16-year-old male, who has not been identified, made statements and released a video related to a school shooting in Florida. Other students at the school were concerned and made reports to authorities.

Thursday, January 11, 2018, Deputies were contacted by Sand Creek Massacre Site, for a report of an unwanted party. Deputies were informed that a male party refused to leave Sand Creek site. Deputies contacted Philip Splitter and took him into custody. He was booked into the Bent County Jail on the following charge: CRS 18-4-503(1)(a) 2nd Degree Criminal Trespass with a bond of $500.

Missing Ohio Teen Found in Eads

The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office is investing a case in which an Ohio teenager was found at a home in Eads.

KCSO was contacted last Wednesday by the Mount Vernon Police Department about an unidentified female who was thought to be en route to Eads in a black semi-truck. The truck was located at a home in the town, and the male driver, who has not been identified, was contacted. The missing teen was also at the home.

Agencies across southeast Colorado also assisted in attempting to locate the truck.

Explosive Device Discovered During Search in La Junta

La Junta police and fire department members were called to a report of a possible explosive device Thursday morning according to La Junta Fire Chief Aaron Eveatt.

While executing a search warrant in the 500 block of Lawrence, officers with the La Junta Police department discovered the potential explosive object. Assistance was requested from the Southern Region Bomb Squad response team, which arrived mid-afternoon. The team determined the device represented an explosive threat. The U.S. Air Force 21st Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was also requested to assist.

For the second consecutive year, the Elbert County Sheriff's Office Foundation is holding a fundraising dinner in support of the brave men and women of the Elbert County Sheriff's Office in the event they are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. 
The evening will include dinner, drinks, live and silent auctions, along with dancing to music provided by John Hillmann. Activities will be taking place March 10 at the Elbert County fairgrounds exhibit building. A cash bar will open at 5:00 p.m., will dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m.

Arapahoe Deputy Convicted of DUI While on Duty Sentenced

Jeffery Vincent, an Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputy, was sentenced this week to a year of probation after being found guilty of driving under the influence and prohibited use of a weapon.

"Vincent made a bad decision," Deputy District Attorney Francisco Martinez told the court. He asked the court to sentence Vincent to probation. 

"Vincent should not allow this case to define him," Martinez said, "but rather learn from it as he moves forward."
