Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman has announced that Eddie Raymond Tipton of Flatonia, Texas, has pled guilty to theft by fraud, and computer crime charges related to his role in defrauding state lotteries in Colorado, Wisconsin and Iowa. Tipton was prosecuted in Wisconsin, as part of a multi-year, multi-state fraud case, and faces a total maximum penalty in Wisconsin of 13.5 years of incarceration.
The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office has made multiple arrests following burglaries that took place in Eads during May and June.
Deputies investigated a burglary that occurred in the 800 block of Hickman Street that was first reported May 9. Five felony warrants were issued for burglary and theft which resulted in the arrest of three juveniles. They have not been named. Also arrested was Joseph Burk of Calhan. He was transported to Prowers County Jail. An additional arrest warrant was issued for an adult male who has not been named.
An Aurora man found guilty of beating his 84-year-old grandfather to death has been sentenced to 72 years in prison. The beating occurred after an argument that started over what to have for to dinner.
Arapahoe District Judge Phillip Douglass sentenced Jason Vanbommel, 34, to 72 years with the Department of Corrections. In April, a jury found him guilty of reckless manslaughter and first-degree assault of an at-risk adult, among other charges. First-degree assault on an at-risk adult is a Class 2 felony, reckless manslaughter is a Class 4 felony.

Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas has been awarded a $5,499 Innovative Technology Grant from the Kansas Board of Regents. The funds will support the Crime Scene Investigation program and will be used to purchase a thermal imaging camera that will expand the capabilities of the drone that is currently being used by the Crime Scene Investigation program.
