Technology is quickly spreading from urban streets to rural farmland. Innovations in agricultural technology are enabling farmers to multiply their yields while using resources more efficiently. According to Dr. Greg Graff of Colorado State University, "The technological improvements in agriculture over the last half of the century--of which Colorado farmers and agribusinesses are at the forefront--have doubled our production capacity while using the same amount of resources." The Galaxy Gallery, located at 108 North Main in Lamar, has recently opened to provide a showcase for artists of different styles, media, and visions. The hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and weekends by appointment.
Vincent Gearhart, one of the gallery curators said, "We are very happy to be able to provide artists of all types in southeast Colorado a location where they can have their artwork available for display to the public and not kept in a closet or storage area someplace."
It has been quite a while since Colorado State University Extension has offered the Master Gardener program in the southeast area. With renewed interest in the program, applications are being accepted for Master Gardner classes which will be conducted in 2019. The host location will be determined by where the majority of the applications are centered. Southeast area extension offices are located in Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, and Prowers counties.
The Bent County Harvest Show began in 1942 as the Victory Harvest Show and has since become a long-time tradition to Bent County.
Even at its start, the first Harvest Show was identified as a huge success, with prizes totaling $110.00 and red, blue, and white ribbons distributed to about 100 winners.
