Bear Attacks Child Overnight Near Grand Junction

An investigation is underway following a bear attack on a child that occurred over night near Grand Junction in Mesa County.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers interviewed the five-year-old girl's mother. She said she heard screaming around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and discovered a black bear dragging her daughter away. The bear dropped the child when her mother started screaming at the animal. She believes her daughter went outside after hearing noises, thinking it was her dog.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission will discuss adopting recommendations for 2018 Big Game limited licenses, the Colorado Wildlife Habitat Program and consider rules and designation of the Cameo Shooting and Educational Complex. The Commission will also hear updates on the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan and begin discussing the next Big Game Season Structure at its May meeting in Grand Junction.

Gardner to Hold Grand Junction Town Hall

Republican Colorado Senator Cory Gardner will hold a town hall meeting Friday, September 8, in Grand Junction. It will be Senator Gardner's fifth town hall since August.

The event will be held at the Robinson Theatre in the Moss Performing Arts Center on the Colorado Mesa University campus, 1100 North Avenue, Grand Junction from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. Constituents are encouraged to arrive early, as space is limited.

Montrose Man Faces Child Sex Assault Charges

A Montrose man is facing multiple charges in connection with an investigation involving an alleged sexual assault on a child.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Joshua M. Hemphill, 25, in the evening hours of August 23.. Hemphill was taken to the Montrose County Jail where he is being held on $250,000 bond.

The initial investigation was based on information provided by an alleged victim.
