Lois M. Springer, 92, of La Junta passed away June 14, 2020, at the Sangre de Cristo Hospice House in Pueblo.

Lois was born February 7, 1928, in McLean, Texas, and moved to Colorado two years later. Her parents, Vera and Douglas Christopher, moved about one mile north of Bristol and remained there until she was about 14 years old. Then they moved to Granada until her marriage to Wilbur Springer in 1947.

Alma Jane "Janie" Lewis, 89, passed away peacefully May 28, 2020, in Broomfield. Alma was born June 27, 1930, in La Junta to John and Erma (Howell) Inskeep.

Alma married Charlie Lewis in March of 1993. Alma loved all animals. She raised her own goats, and took great care of them. She also loved taking care of her horses and dogs. She was an avid bowler and was on several leagues throughout her life.

Jovie Marie Butler was an awesome, loving, caring wife, daughter, mother, sister and friend. May 14, 2020, Jovie left this life with a destination of heaven.

Born the first child, to Vern and Anita Kuhn December 30, 1976, who were living in Westcliffe at the time. Jovie attended school in Eads, North La Junta, La Junta, Rocky Ford, Pioneer Christian and graduated from Cheraw High School.

Lillian Joan Wilbur of Manzanola passed away April 28, 2020, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta. She was born to Robert and Clara (Vedsted) Land February 17, 1932, in Rocky Ford.

Lillian attended school in Manzanola. She married Albert Leroy Wilbur February 3, 1951. Born of their union was Carol Jean, Richard Lee, and Linda Diane.

Detour for Highway 50 construction between Fowler and Manzanola starts in March

The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin construction on an eight-mile segment of U.S. Highway 50 between Fowler and Manzanola in March which will cause a full closure of the road and a detour on to Highways 96 and 71.

The closure and detour for the $11 million project are set to begin March 16 as CDOT works to widen and lengthen a passing lane, repair bridges and rebuild the crumbling roadway. CDOT is closing the highway during construction period for the safety of workers.
