  • USDA Update: Fall harvest is wrapping up way ahead of schedule. Yields are ranging from very good to very poor but in general better than expected.

 

  • Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Schrimp: While at Marty's, she showed how her computer works. Lee started an e-mail, and wrote two lines then said I would finish. I am pretty proud of how much I wrote with one finger.

  • Kiowa County is currently suffering from a shortage of qualified day care providers, and the Department of Social Services is seeking anyone interested in providing this valuable service to children within the county.

 

  • Harvest of fall crops is progressing ahead of schedule. Several producers are nearly finished wit harvest.

  • According to Gay Uhland, Kindergarten teacher at Eads Elementary, the elementary students collected over 150 stuffed animal to donate to the children in New York to comfort the victims of September 11 tragedy.

 

  • The CO Department of Agriculture issued a cease and Desist order to Arriba Grain, Inc, in Arriba September 27. The order does not allow any grain to be purchased or accepted for storage until the company comes into compliance.

  • Junior Golfers, Miles Philpy and Ryan Trosper were thrilled when they won berths in the Colorado State Gold tournament next week.

 

  • Wild Horse Roundup Curtis Schrimp:  Gary McNeely showed me some pictures o the saddle that he won roping. It is a beauty, and something to be proud of.

  • USDA  Rod Johnson: American Agriculture Stand Tall! The tragedy of September 11 has reach to every corner of the earth and virtually everyone has  some direct connection to the atrocity. FSA has been notified that John Ogonowski, an FSA County Committee member for 16 years in Massachusetts, was a pilot on one of the American Airlines Flights that struck the American Trade Center .

  • Over the next 10 to 12 months, Kiowa County and the Kiowa County Economic Development Foundation have committed to the creation of a fountywide, long-range comprehensive plan.

 

  • Kiowa County 4-H members brought home numerous prizes from the recent Colorado State Fair. In fact, more than half of the Kiowa County 4-H projects exhibited at the State Fair placed in the top ten of their class.

Theresa Weber, retired from Sheridan Lake area postmaster, was honored at potluck luncheon & program held at the Plainview School on August 5. Jerry Weber, Theresa son and the mayor of Sheridan Lake presented a proclamation declaring August 5, 2001 "Theresa Weber Day". Jerry Jones, US Postmaster Eads , presented a service award, gold watch and an attache case on behalf of the United States Postal Service.

  • USDA UPDATE: Hot dry weather is affecting the springs crops. Grain sorghum & corn seems  stress the most, while millet & Sunflowers seem to be in a little better condition. Additional rains need soon to avoid a repeat of disastrous 2000 crop year.
