More Severe Weather, Tornadoes on Tap for Saturday Afternoon

More severe weather is expected a day after storms across eastern Colorado brought heavy rain, hail, tornado warnings and damaging 70 mile per hour winds to the region.

The National Weather Service is predicting thunderstorms producing up to two-inch hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph for parts of the region Saturday afternoon.

While the risk for tornadoes is low, the Pueblo NWS office calls out Kiowa and Prowers counties in southeast Colorado as being at risk for isolated tornadoes.

LCC Agriculture Department Named Top Postsecondary Program in Colorado

The Lamar Community College Agriculture department recently received the 2018 Outstanding Postsecondary Program Award for Colorado Agricultural Education.  Greg Cash, LCC faculty and department head, accepted the award from the Colorado Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association at the group's summer conference.

Bent-Prowers Cattle and Horse Growers Association members are invited to join its multi-county board and the Southeast Colorado Junior Cattlemen for a potluck Saturday night, June 30, in Lamar. The evening will include a presentation by Nathan May, who just returned from the National Cattlemen's Beef Association Young Cattlemen's Conference (YCC); as well as highlights from last week's Colorado Cattlemen's Association (CCA) convention.

So, you joined 4-H and you bought yourself your first animal to show at the county fair this year. But now what? What do I feed? How do I clip? What should I do in the show ring? These are all thoughts that have run through every showman's minds at one point in their career.

This year Prowers County 4-H held their first ever mini livestock boot camps. These were held June 11- 13 with each night being a different pairing of species all the way from rabbits to market cattle.  

LCC Names Nolan Collins Head of Women’s Basketball

Lamar Community College has named former assistant coach Nolan Collins its new head coach of women's basketball.

Collins takes the helm after serving as the assistant coach for two years under former head coach Landon Steele.

"I am just proud of the journey over the last two years. It has been a lot of fun to work alongside Landon Steele, I have learned so much from him," Collins said. "I would like to keep the momentum we've had, that we've built, and just keep it going. Finish in the top half of region again like we've been doing."
