While drought conditions across Colorado were mostly stable over the past week, extreme drought expanded in the southeast, with Kiowa county bearing most of the impact.

A celebration of life for longtime Wiley resident, Frederick A. Esgar will be held at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Wiley United Methodist Church with Zach Esgar officiating. Interment will be held prior to the church service at 2:00 p.m. at the Wiley Cemetery under the auspices of the Lamar Masonic Lodge #90.
Visitation for Frederick will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peacock Family Chapel.
The Lamar Community College Nursing department celebrated the accomplishments of their graduates with the time-honored tradition of the Nurse Pinning earlier this month.
The Nurse Pinning ceremony is a traditional rite of passage that each nursing student completes before entering the profession. 53 students were pinned including 20 from the Level I (Practical Nursing) and 33 from the Level II (Associate Degree in Nursing/Registered Nurse) programs.
Legislation Will Study the Process of Including Amache in the National Park System
A stream of blue-clad graduates entered a packed gym at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center for the college's 79thAnnual Commencement ceremony. In just a short time, those students would become LCC alumni.
Dr. Linda Lujan, LCC President, opened the commencement with a brief welcoming address. She remarked on the hard work of the graduates, congratulating them on all of they have accomplished.

Lamar Community College freshman Nate Hoey has his eye on the College National Finals Rodeo after winning the top spot and the buckle for bull riding at the Casper College Rodeo this past weekend. Teammates Tacie Canfield and Kyeann Gordon also placed in breakaway roping and team roping.
Celia Tamayo and Michelle Batista were recognized as two of Lamar Community College's best and brightest at the 2018 Colorado Community College System's Rising Start Awards Ceremony and Honorary Luncheon held on April 10.
