Kiowa County School District RE-1 will begin school on Wednesday, August 9th (Grades K-12).  The following items will need to please be sent with your student on the first day of school:



*First day of school, Monday, August14 th.  Mrs. Williams will be providing you with more information concerning registration appointment times for the week prior.

July 18, the Extension Office was fortunate enough to team up with the Kiowa County Public Library to do some programming for their Build a Better World Summer Reading Program.  We were also fortunate enough to invite Miss Jessi Harris from the Americorp Program to come and help us out.

To achieve its summer reading program goal to "build a better world," the Las Animas-Bent County Library District is teaming with John Martin Reservoir State Park to reward avid readers with free overnight camping trips in the park.

Paula Shane, library district director, said the opportunity to win gift certificates for six one-night camping stays in the park has given extra motivation to the 26 children in program to read.

Southern Plains All Star Team Wraps up Season

The Southern Plains 10-year-old all-star team headed east to Lakin, Kansas, July 3 to take on the Southwest Kansas all stars.  On a hot evening the Southern Plains bats were even hotter. Bryson Hyle bounced one over the fence along with 3 other hits. Case Nelson had 3 hits along with Devin Eaton and Zach Dickey. Poncho Saenz and Truman King collected 2 hits on the ball game. Defensively the SP All Stars made some amazing plays by Stockton Mitchek, Case Nelson, and Damion Molina.

Have your kiddos participated in the Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Lincoln Early Childhood Council (CKLECC) Fun Tote Program yet?  If not, you don't want them to miss out on the Summer Fun Tote Program.    The program is a fun and educational opportunity for children ages 0-8.  The program promotes the importance of early childhood development and interaction between children, parents, caregivers and siblings.
