(StatePoint) More than 13 million U.S. consumers fall victim to identity theft each year, according to Javelin Strategy and Research, with more than $15 billion stolen. Fortunately for consumers, many of these crimes are preventable.
The ElderWatch Helpline has been fielding lots of calls about the "Say Yes" scam. Many news reports have warned that a scammer will call and ask a question to get the victim to say "Yes." Then, reportedly, the scammer records that "Yes" to use it to authorize unwanted charges to a phone bill, utility bill or a credit card.
Pinnacle Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling all "Best By" dates of Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes, Frozen Waffles & Frozen French Toast Slices distributed nationally in the United States and one product into Mexico because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month.
There were 125 motorcycle fatalities in 2016--a 15 percent increase from the number of motorcycle fatalities in 2015 and a record all-time high for Colorado. Motorcycle deaths have been on the rise for the past few years, which is why CDOT will be launching a campaign during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month to encourage riders to participate in motorcycle safety training courses offered across the state.

Residents of the Front Range corridor and eastern Colorado may be dealing with snow-damaged trees after tonight and tomorrow's snowstorm, and may soon be considering actions to protect and repair them. Keith Wood, community forestry program manager for the Colorado State Forest Service, said that although the first impulse may be to start sawing when a tree is damaged, homeowners should first assess the situation to avoid hurting themselves or further damaging the tree.
