Increased DUI Patrols Begin Friday

For many, the new year marks a time for self-improvement, reflection and growth. For those who decide to drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, it could mean jail time, steep fines and other penalties. From December 29 to January 2, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement agencies will increase DUI enforcement to keep our roadways safe from impaired drivers during New Year's weekend celebrations. 

3.0 Earthquake Southwest of Trinidad Wednesday

The United States Geological Survey recorded an earthquake in Las Animas county at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. It was centered 27 miles southwest of Trinidad.

The quake, measuring 3.0 on the Richter Scale, occurred at a depth of 3.1 miles. A week ago, a 3.4 earthquake occurred about 20 miles north of the area, which regularly experiences such minor quakes.

No damage or injuries have been reported.

Storms are becoming more frequent as winter weather sets in, so it is time to ensure your car, truck or SUV is ready for driving as conditions change for the season.

Eastern Plains

Frigid overnight temperatures will be the rule for Colorado's eastern plains over the weekend. Lows will be in the teens Friday night, and further falling into the single digits Saturday. Teens return overnight Sunday.

Friday's highs will range from the low to mid-30s in northeast Colorado to the low 40s further south.
