Weather Outlook – Rain and Snow Start Thursday Evening

An upper low pressure system will be lifting into the Four Corners area tonight bringing heavy snow to the mountains and rain across the eastern plains of Colorado.

Mountain areas could see up to two feet of snow, while 1-2 inches of rain is expected across Kiowa County overnight Thursday into the evening Friday. Baca and Las Animas Counties could see supercell thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. The potential for isolated showers continues through Monday evening before a drying trend starts Tuesday.

Semi-finalists for Lamar Community College President Named


The national search for a president for Lamar Community College began in March 2016.   A search committee comprised of college, community and system representatives has been working to screen and conduct preliminary interviews of applicants in order to identify those most suited to be considered for the role of president.  Current President John Marrin will be retiring from LCC on July 31, 2016.

Ordway, Fowler and La Junta to Host 5th Annual Pedal the Plains Tour

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, The Denver Post Community Foundation and presenting sponsor Viaero Wireless have announced the route for the 2016 Pedal The Plains Bicycle Tour. Now in its fifth year, an estimated 1,000 riders will spin through southeast Colorado covering 151 miles over the course of 3 days. From September 16-18, participants will visit the host communities of Ordway, Fowler and La Junta, while touring a number of scenic, historical and agricultural stops along the way.

Daytime temperatures continue a cooling trend ahead of an incoming storm system that will bring rain to the area by Thursday night.

Wednesday's high will be around 60 for Kiowa County, with mid- to lower 50s through the weekend. Overnight lows will mainly be in the 30s.

An upper low pressure system moving toward the four corners area by Friday is expected to bring snow to higher elevations of the southern mountains by Thursday and rain across the southeast plains.

Lamar Community College Commencement set for May 7

Lamar Community College will host its 77th Annual Commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the LCC Wellness Center.  Over 230 degree or certificate-seeking students are eligible to walk in this year's commencement ceremony, including fall 2015 graduates as well as spring and summer 2016 candidates for graduation. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am.  No tickets are required for admittance.
