Weekend Weather Forecast

A warm and dry weekend is on tap for southeast Colorado, and will extend into Monday.

High temperatures will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s, with evening temperatures falling to the mid-20s to low 30s.

Winds will pick up Saturday night, ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour. By Sunday, wind gusts to 30 mph are possible.

Park County Deputy Shot, Killed

For the second time in less than a month, a Colorado law enforcement officer has been shot and killed.

Wednesday (February 24, 2016), members of the Park County Sheriff's Office were serving an an eviction order at a home in Bailey. Officers made contact with Martin Wirth at the home.

Wirth is said have come out of the home briefly and went back inside. Officers followed, and Wirth began shooting. Officers returned fire, and Wirth was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene.

NRCS Announce Second Application Period for Easement Program

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Colorado announced a second opportunity for landowners to participate in the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program - Agricultural Land Easements (ACEP-ALE). Application packages are due on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 by 4:00 p.m. for funding consideration. 

Weather Outlook – The Week Ahead

Look for mostly sunny conditions and highs in the 50s through Friday, with winds around 10 miles per hour.

The major exception will be Monday night into Tuesday, when a rain-snow mix is possible from a system that will enter the area. Temperatures will struggle to get to the mid-40s, with 20-25 mph winds out of the northeast becoming north. Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected Monday night, and less than an inch of snow Tuesday.

Grants Available to Benefit Colorado’s Specialty Crops

Colorado produces a wide variety of specialty crops, from peaches and apples to chiles and hops. To help develop and promote the state's specialty crops, the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) is seeking proposals for the Specialty Crops Block Grant Program. Specialty crops are defined as fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, and nursery crops including floriculture and sod.
