Rocky Ford Man Arrested for 1970 Utah Murder

The Carbon County, Utah, Sheriff's Office has announced that Thomas Edward Egley of Rocky Ford, Colorado, has been arrested for the rape and murder of Loretta Jones that occurred in July 1970.

Sergeant David Brewer had reopened the now-46 year old case at the request of the family in 2009, and had recently obtained Egley's confession to raping and killing Jones, as well as destroying evidence that would have linked him to the case.

Egley is awaiting extradition from Colorado to Utah to face charges.

A recent survey by AARP Foundation ElderWatch found that close to 80% percent of Colorado adults ages 18 and older made a charitable donation in the last twelve months. Though many are giving, the survey also found that most consumers don't know how to verify a charity's legitimacy.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, August 13, 2016, in honor of Navy ensign John Charles England.

England, a Pearl Harbor hero and Medal of Honor recipient, was officially classified as among the unknown who died aboard the USS Oklahoma on Dececember 7, 1941. England's remains were positively identified this year after nearly 70 years in an unmarked mass grave in Hawaii.

One Death Among 13 Human Cases of West Nile Virus in Colorado

Colorado has seen a sharp increase in the number of cases of West Nile virus diagnosed in 2016. People, animals and mosquito pools have tested positive from the following counties this season: Adams, Arapahoe, Bent, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Gunnison, La Plata, Larimer, Mesa, Morgan, Rio Blanco and Weld. So far this year, 13 cases of human West Nile virus have been reported, including one death.

Reward Offered in Lincoln County Cattle Deaths

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for shooting and killing cattle  north of Hugo.
In a social media post, the office states, "If you know something, say something. It is time to evaluate your loyalty to this [criminal]."

Elbert County Seeks Witnesses to I-70 Shooting

Elbert County Sheriff Shane Heap is seeking witnesses and assistance in locating suspects in a freeway shooting that took place during the early morning hours Friday.

According to the Elbert County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded shortly before 1:00 a.m. to mile marker 352 on Interstate 70 just west of Limon for a reported shooting. The victim was a man from Kansas who had been traveling east when a blue, 4-door Honda pulled alongside the man's vehicle. At least one of the two occupants of the Honda began shooting.
