“I the Lord, Thy God will hold your hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” Psalm 41:13

I was sad to miss the “Bash” on Eads Maine Street last week, along with other people. We enjoy the outdoor musical performers. It is so good to watch people playing shuffleboard, and hear the ring-clink of horseshoes! We enjoy watching the many people, mostly of the “younger set” (teens to 30 or 40), play cornhole. We are glad to see the vendors, too. The Ice Cream Shoppe is such a popular place! Claire Lane has been extra busy selling good foods at her little shop for dining inside or carry out. Some people carry boxes down to the park to sit at the tables, or to their cars to eat at home. There one more “Bash,” that is set for August 1. This entertainer is Brenna Rose from Kit Carson and some of her friends. She is a multi-talented musician, and a great singer. She is really a “master” to come to Eads to hear her voice and message, and maybe her children will sing a song or two? Bring a chair or blanket, or sit on the stone wall or in your car. You can also go to the movies in our lovely Plains Theatre at 7:00 p.m.

The Cheyenne County Fair was in full swing last week in Cheyenne Wells for 4-H and Open Class entries being judged, and lots of other events including rodeos. Areta Laird drove up for two of the rodeos to be a part of the Kit Cason VFW group’s presentation of the flags before the rodeo. Areta and Marla Gwen Darrell said the amazing sight to see was that Saturday night during the rodeo it rained! They said that, even though it was raining hard, the rodeo events still went on! It was quite entertaining. Marla and her husband, Travis, decided to go back Sunday to load up the goods from her booth so the clothes, belts, jewelry and other items didn’t get wet in the downpour.

Last week, Brenda Leon, our activity director at Weisbrod, led us through the extensive directions to make tall, blue fish aquariums. These are supposed to glow in the dark. In the afternoon, we played several challenging games with ball at a table. We were surprised that we could accomplish some of those feats.

Sunday, we rushed back from church at Kit Carson so I can attend “church” here in Weisbrod. Last week, our guest pastor was Gail Voss, the wonderful lady who also trimmed several elderly heads of hair, fried chicken for 58 people at the Eads Senior Citizen Center, and cooked a lot of foods for her family’s outing at Blue Lake. We often exclaim, “Wow, what a woman!” Gail shares her “Servant Heart” with us also, representing the Praise Community Church.

One of the best things that happened to some of us in Eads this week is meeting Celeste Dillon, who chanced to stay here and visit Eads. She left her home in Lawton, Oklahoma, but had a tire problem in a small town somewhere Friday. Unfortunately, she couldn’t get it repaired until Monday. She was driving through Eads about 2:00 p.m. Monday and tried the door at the Sand Creek Massacre visitor center building. When it didn’t open, she tried the senior center door where Gail was preparing for Monday afternoon coffee hour. We had such a delightful visit with this charming lady, who lives most of the year traveling in her van. She has been visiting us at Weisbrod for several days, and we enjoy her a lot.

Since it is about four or five weeks until the Kiowa County Fair, younger and older folk are getting their exhibits ready. In fact, according to Extension Agent Tearle Lessenden and his secretary, Krystal Eikenberg, plans for the busy days are finished and coming to fruition.

Some 4-H members are having cake decorating classes from Kystal Eikenberg. Two sisters, Tia and Kinley Lawrence, pleased us Tuesday evening when they brought their cakes and cupcakes for us to see what they had decorated that day. We were invited to take a cupcake before their mother, who is a nurse here, ushered them out and to home some 22 miles from here. These girls will be competing with other 4-H members at the 4-H Fair August 4 at the Eads Senior Citizen Center for judging. Then, at about 6:00 p.m., there is the auction of mostly food goods. Some projects will be transported to the State Fair for judging and display. After about a week at the State Fair, they will be on display at the Kiowa County Fair in Eads.

Eads School registration is in the glass foyer and multi-purpose room for the students August 5, especially high school. However, if a reader is new to the community and hasn’t contacted the school, this may be a good chance to get in classes that the students want to take. Education is very important. We have good educators in all three schools in Kiowa County. Plus, we have some faculty members who teach classes through the Lamar Community College system. This is a great savings of money to get college classes completed while in high school. Have a great school year!

Be positive. Look at the bright side of life and school.
