Ag stat: June 2022 Wyoming crop production highlights

WYOMING HIGHLIGHTS

Barley production in Wyoming, based on conditions as of July 1, 2022 is forecast at 5.05 million bushels, according to the July 1 Agricultural Yield Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. This forecast is down 21 percent from the 2021 crop. Estimated acreage for harvest, at 51,000 acres, is down 19,000 acres from the 70,000 acres harvested in 2021. As of July 1, the average yield is forecast at 99.0 bushels per acre, up 8.0 bushels per acre from last year’s final yield.

As of July 3, Wyoming’s barley crop condition was rated 1 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 75 percent good, and 1 percent excellent, compared with 6 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 6 percent excellent last year. Barley headed was at 60 percent complete, compared with 74 percent last year and the 5-year average of 58 percent.
