Ag stats: January 2020 mountain states chicken and egg production report

COLORADO 

Colorado egg production during January 2020 was 137.2 million eggs, down 1 percent from December 2019 but up 11 percent from January 2019 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.

The average number of layers on hand in January 2020 was 5.09 million, down 3 percent from December 2019 but up 7 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,695 eggs, up 4 percent from last year. 

UTAH 

Utah egg production during January 2020 was 120.6 million eggs, down 4 percent from December 2019 and down 4 percent from January 2019 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.

The average number of layers on hand during January 2020 was 4.57 million, down 2 percent from December 2019 and down 6 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,641 eggs, up 2 percent from last year. 

UNITED STATES 

United States egg production totaled 9.73 billion during January 2020, up 1 percent from last year. Production included 8.51 billion table eggs, and 1.22 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.14 billion were broiler-type and 86.0 million were eggtype. The total number of layers during January 2020 averaged 403 million, up slightly from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,415 eggs, up 1 percent from January 2019. 

All layers in the United States on February 1, 2020 totaled 401 million, down slightly from last year. The 401 million layers consisted of 336 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.1 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.28 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2020, averaged 77.9 eggs per 100 layers, up 1 percent from February 1, 2019. 

Egg-type chicks hatched during January 2020 totaled 52.9 million, down 6 percent from January 2019. Eggs in incubators totaled 50.5 million on February 1, 2020, down 8 percent from a year ago. 

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 265 thousand during January 2020, down 1 percent from January 2019. 

Broiler-type chicks hatched during January 2020 totaled 861 million, up 4 percent from January 2019. Eggs in incubators totaled 717 million on February 1, 2020, up 4 percent from a year ago. 

Leading breeders placed 8.54 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during January 2019, up 14 percent from January 2019.
