Ag stats: Kansas crop progress and condition report – week ending August 21, 2022

For the week ending August 21, 2022, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 42% very short, 35% short, 22% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 43% very short, 36% short, 21% adequate, and 0% surplus. 

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 21% very poor, 23% poor, 30% fair, 22% good, and 4% excellent. Corn silking was 94%, behind 100% last year and 99% for the five-year average. Dough was 74%, behind 84% both last year and average. Dented was 47%, near 45% last year and 49% average. Mature was 12%, ahead of 3% last year and 7% average. Harvested was 4%. 

Soybean condition rated 14% very poor, 21% poor, 34% fair, 28% good, and 3% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 91%, near 90% last year and 92% average. Setting pods was 67%, near 70% last year, and behind 76% average. 

Sorghum condition rated 17% very poor, 26% poor, 31% fair, 24% good, and 2% excellent. Sorghum headed was 68%, behind 84% last year and 82% average. Coloring was 16%, behind 28% last year and 23% average. 

Cotton condition rated 5% very poor, 38% poor, 36% fair, 19% good, and 2% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 96%, ahead of 84% last year, and well ahead of 67% average. Bolls opening was 17%, ahead of 8% last year and 5% average. 

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 37% very poor, 25% poor, 26% fair, 12% good, and 0% excellent.
