The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been receiving reports of phone calls from a person posing as a CBI agent who demands payment of fines to avoid arrest.

The scammer is using the name of an actual CBI employee. The calls have occurred numerous times over recent weeks.

CBI says it would never call people threatening arrest for unpaid debts, fines, or other fees, and advises anyone who receives a similar call to hang up without responding.

In September, CBI issued a warning about disaster relief scams following recent hurricanes that impacted the southeast United States.
