Colorado Parks and Wildlife enacted an emergency public fish salvage for Smith Reservoir in Lakewood Friday, effective immediately. The agency acted because seasonal drawdowns put the reservoir's fishery at risk of imminent loss.

All bag and possession limits have been lifted at the reservoir.

Anglers can harvest largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, yellow perch and green sunfish.

Fishing is allowed only from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. or dusk, whichever is earlier. Lakewood Parks and Recreation controls access to the property.

Anglers must have a valid Colorado fishing license. They must follow all legal angling methods. Commercial fishing is not allowed.

Only shoreline fishing is permitted. Motorized boating and wading are not allowed.

An updated list of closures and fishing limits due to drought is on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website. The agency's Fishing Atlas also lists closures and new places to fish.
