Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee Announces Local Board Appointments

Wikimedia

The Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee (CWAC) announces receipt of the Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture, Don Brown’s, appointments for the 2016-17 Wheat Administrative Committee Board of Control.

The most recent appointments mark a departure from the traditional producer-elected members to Commissioner appointed selections of the Administrative Committee Board of Control as outlined in the Wheat Marketing Order issued on May 5, 1958.  “For the past 30 years, the wheat farmers of Colorado held county and district level elections, to assemble the leaders for the Administrative Committee.  We recognize this changed procedure presents challenges and opportunities. We will adapt and grow with the strong foundation of the Colorado Wheat industry,” reflected current CWAC President Dave Anderson of Haxtun. “The strength of our industry lies in the resiliency and eternal optimism of the passionate farmers and staff.”

The seating of the 2016-17 board as well as the election of officers will be held during the August board meeting.

The Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG) has seated the 2016-17 Board of Directors and elected new officers to serve the Colorado wheat producers in uniting the voice of wheat farmers.  Brian Brooks of Walsh was elected President, Dan Anderson of Haxtun will continue to serve as Vice-President, Mark Linnebur of Byers stays on as Secretary-Treasurer, and Randy Traxler from Otis will transition to Past-President for the term running July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.  “I look forward to maintaining the strong position of CAWG at the state and national levels. With continued attacks on the American farmer from many policy directions, it is important for our farmers to be united and resolute,” said Brooks as he considers the year ahead.

CWAC is the producer-appointed Board of Control for the Colorado Wheat Marketing Order whose purpose is to decide how assessment funds are to be spent for research, promotion, and education activities. CAWG is a voluntary membership association that lobbies on behalf of wheat growers at the state and national levels of government and provides special programs and benefits to dues paying members.
