A Day In The Life

By Michelle Wyckoff

Printer.  Described by Google as “a machine for printing text or pictures onto paper, especially one linked to a computer.”  Therein lies the problem.  My printer became “unlinked” from my laptop.  My copy machine-fax-potato peeler-scanner would not print from my laptop.  My car may as well have imploded.

I took both the laptop and printer, along with Jordan, my own personal “Geek”, to the Geek Squad at Best Buy.  Try as he might, he could not fix what I had managed to mess up.  He couldn’t fix it then, but he can fix it now.   Ashley, the on duty Geek, turned them both on, tapped a few keys and told me she was going to make them “communicate” with each other and “ become friends.”   Okay………...

When Dustin was in first or second grade, one of the moms at the Haswell School had a birthday party for one of her kids and invited the whole lower grade class.  Kindergarten through third grade.  The whole herd.  There must have been seven of them.  Midway into the party, one of the girls got her knickers in a twist  and decided to go home.  She left and the other girl followed, begging  her to come back.  One just kept on talkin’, the other just kept on walkin’.  Dustin followed them down the alley and convinced them both to come back to the party.  Haswell Mom told me she was going to call him the “peacemaker.”  That’s what I’m going to call  Ashley-the “peacemaker.”  When we left Best Buy, the printer and laptop were once again  ”friends.”

I wonder if it ever occurred to  Haswell Mom that the “peacemaker” might have had something to do with the twisted knickers in the first place……….

May you be living the good life, Kathy Eikenberg!
