John was born May 9, 1969, at Denver to John Paul and Nancy Sue (Ballard) Sutphin Jr., and passed away January 17, 2026, at the Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs with his family by his side at the age of 56.

He is preceded in death by his nephew, Xander Rowan; niece, Teagyn; and nephew, Ryder Shipman.

John is survived by his wife Angela Sutphin of the family home in Lamar; children, John Paul (Jessica) Sutphin IV of Lamar, Chanelle (Caleb) DuVall of Granada, Jozlyn (Kadyn) Hicks of Lamar, and McKenzie (Kolby) Stegman of Lamar; grandchildren, Blakelynn, Sawyer, Annistyn, Slade, Tilden, John V, Krew and Kross. He is also survived by his siblings, Monette Sutphin of Wiley, Melissa (Eddie Uratani) Shipman of Lamar, Monica Sutphin of Lamar, and Christopher (Courtney) Stewart of McClave; parents, John (Susan) Sutphin, Jr. of Lamar, and Nancy (Mike Huddleston) Sutphin of Lamar; sister-in-law, Sara (Dustin) Campbell of Lamar; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alfred and Susan Bergquist of Lamar; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the John Sutphin III Memorial Scholarship through Wiley Consolidated School in care of the funeral home office.

A celebration of life for John Paul Sutphin III will be held at 10:00 a.m. January 24, 2026, at the Lamar Christian Church with Shannon O’Bryan officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery.
