East End Events

Our communities would like to express their condolences to the family of Gerald Nix, who passed away recently. Gerald was a teacher at Plainview School for several years. From there, he taught in Tribune, KS, where he resided until a couple years ago, when he moved to California to be nearer his youngest son. His services were Monday morning in Tribune, KS.
Well, Friday turned into a very scary day for lots of people in our area. From Stuart Hill to west of Sheridan Lake, lots of people lost windows in their homes, cars, and farm machinery from the large hail stones and high winds. Many power poles were broke off and people were without electricity until later in the day on Saturday. The baseball size hail actually knocked a hole through the metal roof at Plainview school, causing some water damage. We were very fortunate here in Towner with only minor damage, mostly to trees. A big thank you to the Emergency Managment people, sheriff's department, Eads Lumber for the plywood, Plains Parts Store and everyone else who helped board up windows and anything else that needed done for those that were the hardest hit by the storm. Small communities are the greatest!
Kathy Specht said they had very little damage. Her Ornamental "Dead" Tree was damaged the worst - not very pretty anymore.
Freda Schmidt's granddaughter Kelsie Greenfield and husband Larson of Nashville, TN stopped to visit with her and Dorcas Berggren and family on Saturday afternoon. Freda lost all of her East windows except one from the hail storm.
Amy and Kelvin Schmidt said harvest was over and just in time before the big hail storm.
Last week, Denis and Theresa Weber's granddaughter Lexi Knutson, great-grandson Josiah Wately and Ari Pennington spent several days visiting them and Jerry Weber. Their daughter Connie Weber spent last weekend visiting them and her brother Jerry.
Larry and Judy Tuttle spent last weekend at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker watching their granddaughter Emily compete in the "Summer in the Rockies Series" Horse Show.
Monte and Linda Stum's granddaughter Juliette Janes had outpatient surgery in St. Louis, MO on July 14th on her feet. Hope you're doing better Juliette.
Have a great week!!
