July Prices Received Index Decreased 3.8 Percent
The July Prices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 91.5, decreased 3.8 percent from June 2018. At 86.8, the Crop Production Index decreased 3.9 percent. The Livestock Production Index, at 95.4, decreased 3.1 percent. Producers received lower prices for milk, broilers, grapes, and cattle but higher prices for lemons, market eggs, strawberries, and onions.
Compared with a year earlier, the Prices Received Index is down 4.3 percent. The Crop Production Index decreased 0.1 percent and the Livestock Production Index 8.2 percent. In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the volume change of commodities producers market. Decreased monthly movement of milk, oranges, cattle, and broilers offset the increased marketing of grapes, wheat, hay, and cotton. The Food Commodities Index, at 94.9, decreased 4.0 percent from the previous month and 6.0 percent from July 2017.
July Prices Paid Index Down 0.2 Percent
The July Prices Paid Index for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW), at 108.7, is down 0.2 percent from June 2018 but up 2.1 percent from July 2017. Lower prices in July for feeder pigs, complete feeds, feed grains, and supplements more than offset higher prices for feeder cattle, self-propelled machinery, repairs, and other services.
